How to Start Thinking in English: 7 Daily Habits That Actually Work
By R. M. Meshram · 24 August 2026 · 3 min read
Do you form a sentence in Marathi or Hindi first and then translate it? That translation delay is why speaking feels slow and stressful. Fluent speakers think in English. Here's how to build that skill — a few minutes at a time.
1. Narrate your day
While cooking, travelling or getting ready, describe what you are doing in simple English: "I'm making tea. The water is boiling. I need more sugar." Short, simple sentences are perfect.
2. Label your world
Stick small notes on things at home — mirror, cupboard, switchboard, curtain. Your brain starts connecting objects directly to English words.
3. Think your to-do list in English
Every morning, plan your day in English: "First I'll finish the report, then I'll call the bank."
4. Learn phrases, not single words
Instead of decision, learn "make a decision." Instead of mistake, learn "I made a mistake." Phrases come out naturally when you speak.
5. The one-minute mirror talk
Stand in front of a mirror and speak on any topic for one minute — your favourite food, your village, your dream job. Don't stop to correct yourself. Just keep speaking.
6. Listen before sleep
Your mind is highly receptive just before sleep. Listening to simple English audio or positive affirmations at bedtime is at the heart of the Sleep & Learn approach taught at Vijeta.
