Job Interview in English: 12 Common Questions with Confident Sample Answers
By R. M. Meshram · 2 September 2026 · 3 min read
An interview is not an English exam — it is a conversation. Interviewers look for clarity, confidence and honesty, not difficult words. Practise these answers aloud until they feel natural.
1. Tell me about yourself.
"Good morning. I'm Sneha Patil from Shikrapur. I recently completed my B.Com from Pune University. During college, I did a three-month internship in accounts, where I learned Tally and GST filing. I'm organised, I learn quickly, and I'm looking for an opportunity to grow in finance."
Formula: Present → Past → Future. Keep it under one minute.
2. What are your strengths?
"I'm a quick learner and very disciplined. In my internship, I learned a new billing software within a week." Always give an example.
3. What is your weakness?
"I used to hesitate while speaking in English, so I joined a spoken English course and now I practise every day." Show improvement.
4. Why should we hire you?
"I have the right skills, I'm eager to learn, and I'm committed to giving my best to the team."
5. Why do you want to join our company?
Research the company first. "Your company is growing fast and values training. I want to learn and grow with such an organisation."
6. Where do you see yourself in five years?
"I see myself as a skilled professional handling bigger responsibilities, possibly leading a small team."
7. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive: "I'm looking for better growth and new challenges."
8. Are you comfortable working under pressure?
"Yes. During exams and my internship, I learned to plan my work and meet deadlines calmly."
9. What are your salary expectations?
"I'm open to a fair package as per company standards for this role."
10. Do you have any questions for us?
Always ask one: "What does a typical day in this role look like?"
11. Describe a challenge you faced.
Use Situation → Action → Result.
12. Can you work in a team?
"Yes. In my final-year project, I coordinated with four teammates and we completed it before the deadline."
Final tips
- Speak slowly and clearly — speed is not fluency.
- Smile, keep eye contact and sit straight.
- It's okay to pause: "That's a good question. Let me think."
